- TO:
- Full-Time Staff & Management
- FROM:
- Willie Hagan
Vice President for Administration & Finance/CFO
- SUBJECT:
- Staff Development and Training Program
I am pleased to announce that the Staff Development and Training Program is being made available this spring to full-time bargaining unit staff members and some MPP and Confidential staff members. This program was initially established in 1998 via University Planning Initiative funding as a method of providing a significant professional development opportunity of up to sixty days for staff members, somewhat akin to the type of professional development opportunities available to faculty. We have a limited amount of funds remaining. Based on previous amounts that have been awarded we estimate we will be able to fund approximately three additional awards.
Through the staff development program, eligible staff may receive up to $15,000 to participate in a significant professional development opportunity. Of this $15,000, up to $10,000 may be allocated towards a developmental/training activity, and up to $5,000 may be allocated to the recipient’s department as reimbursement for the time the staff member is pursuing the developmental activity and is away from the office.
To qualify for consideration, staff members must also be in good standing and have completed five years of continuous employment in the California State University system, with a minimum of three years at Cal State Fullerton. Since other sources of funds exist to further their professional development, administrators at the Associate Vice President level or higher and school Deans are not eligible for consideration.
I encourage you to review the enclosed application form and criteria in relation to your professional goals. This program is not designed to pay for workshops or weeklong conferences. Rather it is intended to provide a significant professional development experience and I strongly encourage you to “think big”. Unlike seminars or workshops, this program does not have a listing of classes or opportunities from which you can select. You are responsible for identifying the professional development experience that will be most relevant to you and making the necessary arrangements to determine whether your idea is feasible. You may want to review some of the follow-up reports from previous award recipients on the Vice President for Administration & Finance website to encourage ideas for your application.
If you are interested in applying, please discuss it with your supervisor, complete the application, and submit it to your supervisor for nomination and recommendation. Once your supervisor has completed the nomination and recommendation section, forward the application and supporting documentation to the Vice President for Administration & Finance Office in LH-802. A selection committee will review all applications received by March 30, 2007. Notification to you and your supervisor of approved applications will occur by the end of April 2007.
For your convenience in completing the application form, you may access an Informed Filler version of the form via the Informed Filler software on your rollout compatible desktop. After opening the Informed Filler program, please go to “Services” and then to the "CSUF Human Resources" server. The Staff Development and Training Grant form is located in the "VP Administration & Finance" folder.
Workshops providing assistance in developing a Staff Development application will be available in the upcoming weeks. Please watch for a bulletin board announcement with specific training dates and times.
I am personally excited by the opportunities this program provides. It is yet another means by which the University can support the professional growth of our valued staff members.
Thank you.
