Mary Aboud

Mary Aboud from HDCS participated in a 60-day on-campus internship with the HDCS Assistant Dean and Division Chair, focusing on student retention and recruitment. Link to Mary's follow up report.

Shariq Ahmed

Shariq is a unit 9 staff member in the Faculty Development Center. Shariq will visit six universities across the United States to assist him in his role of promoting, developing, and enhancing the use of Blackboard as the primary learning management system at the university. Karen Alonzo

Karen Alonzo from Facilities Management participated in an internship with Rickes Associates in Boston for two weeks to gain a better understanding of space planning and management programs. Link to Karen's follow up report.

Jeff Bechtold

Jeff Bechtold is a unit 6 staff member in Physical Plant who has worked at the University for more than 6 years as an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanic. Jeff will attend approximately three weeks of training in support of the University’s building automation control systems, including: Continuum System Administration; Network and Troubleshooting a Continuum Installation, and Continuum HVAC Programming. These courses will provide Jeff with advanced job training, provide critical data used for maintenance and repairs, and in turn also benefit the campus by providing cost savings in heating and cooling use and maintenance repairs. Pat Bril

As Associate Director of the Library, Pat attended ACRL/Harvard Leadership Institute to gain new leadership strategies related to her administrative responsibilities. Link to Pat's follow up report.

Kathleen Costello

Kathleen Costello from University Advancement received three weeks of training at the Urban Institute and the Independent Sector in Washington D.C. to gain an increased understanding of non-profit organizations and charitable giving. Link to Kathleen's follow up report.

Torria Davis and Alma Gonzalez

Torria is a unit 7 staff member in University Advancement and Alma is a unit 7 staff member in the College of Health and Human Development. Torria and Alma will both participate in the Event Management Certificate program through George Washington University through distance learning in order to benefit their departments with their event planning needs. The completion of four core courses, two elective courses, a minimum of 100 practicum hours and the submission of a professional portfolio are required to receive a certificate. Chuck Elliott

Chuck is a unit 6 staff member in Physical Plant. Chuck will be attending two one week training courses; Level II Infrared Thermography Certification and Building Science Certification. These courses will provide Chuck with advanced job training, provide critical data used for maintenance and repairs to his department, and in turn will also benefit the campus fiscally by providing cost savings in energy use and maintenance repairs. Debi Esquivel

Debi Esquivel is a unit 4 staff member who has worked at the University for approximately 15 years and is currently the Assistant Director of the University Learning Center. In conjunction with a CSUF faculty member who is receiving funding via another source, Debi will take two separate trips to Guatemala to pilot the University Learning Center’s peer tutoring model and analyze the global application and bilingual education effectiveness. Debi’s findings will inform multi-language and cultural diversity instructional design training for CSUF tutors. Link to Debi's follow up report PDF file.

Sheila Faris-Penn

Sheila Faris-Penn is a unit 9 staff member in University Advancement who has worked at the University for 12 years and is responsible for University Advancement’s web presence, including online fundraising, event marketing/online event registration, and Alumni outreach. Sheila is currently participating in a 46-day Application Developer Internship program with New Media, a division of Warner Brothers World Wide Television Marketing. This internship will assist Sheila in enhancing her web programming skills and also improve University Advancement’s online marketing.

Vincent Hernandez

Vincent Hernandez from the Learning Technology Center participated in two one-week training experiences at AMX University in Dallas to enable him to design and maintain AMX control systems, resulting in cost savings to the campus. Link to Vincent's follow up report.

Owen Holmes

Owen Holmes from Government Relations traveled to Washington D.C. for 60-days to make contact with federal agencies and departments, gain first hand experience on Capitol Hill, and receive mentorship from the CSU Director of Federal Relations. Link to Owen's follow up report.

Anh Huynh-Nelson

Anh is a unit 7 staff member in the Library. In her role as Head of Circulation Services, Anh will be visiting up to 13 CSU campuses to establish lines of communication and gather ideas for best practices. Link to Anh Huynh-Nelson follow up report PDF file.

Ellen Junn

As the Director of the Faculty Development Center Ellen's award provided her with an opportunity to visit 5 different faculty development centers across the nation in support of her goal of creating the "best" Faculty Development Center in the nation. Link to Ellen's follow up report.

Susan Katsaros

Susan Katsaros from Public Affairs completed a certificate program in etiquette and protocol offered with the Protocol School of Washington.

Ginny Pace

Ginny Pace from the College of Business and Engineering (CBE) participated in a Certificate in Fund Raising Management through Indiana University's Center on Philanthropy in support of her role as Director of Events for the College.

Dan Robinson

Dan Robinson from Physical Plant participated in two one-week EMS training courses in Andover, Mass. to optimize his understanding of environmental, comfort cooling/heating and lighting scheduling controls. Link to Dan's follow up report.

Leticia Stotler

Leticia Stotler from the Faculty Development Center completed an advanced eventplanning certificate program through UC San Diego. Link to Leticia's follow up report.

Barbara Sweet

As a staff member in International Programs, Barbara participated in the 1999 Fullerton/Fudan Seminar in China to increase her understanding of the Chinese culture. Link to Barbara's follow up report.

Lay Tuan Tan

Lay Tuan Tan from International Education & Exchange completed training at the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communications in Portland, Oregon to obtain advanced skills. Link to Lay's follow up report.

Brad van Mourik

Brad van Mourik from Chemistry completed specialized training in the use and maintenance of the department's Nuclear Magnetic Spectrometer through NMR Concepts in Rhode Island. Link to Brad's follow up report.
